Skew Rolling Technology

Inclined Roll Forming: Inclined rolls rotate and guide the heated bar forward while applying radial deformation.

Helical-Groove Forming: Specially designed grooves progressively shape the bar into spherical sections.

Continuous Rolling: Continuous bar feeding allows multiple grinding balls to be formed in a single rolling process.

Process Matching: Ball diameter, bar diameter, steel grade and rolling conditions are matched for stable forming.

How the Skew Rolling Mill Works

The production process consists of four main stages:

Round Steel Bar Feeding
Round steel bars are continuously fed according to the selected ball diameter and production configuration.

Induction Heating
The bar is heated to the required forming temperature before entering the rolling mill.

One-Pass Skew Rolling
The heated bar enters the inclined helical-groove rolls. The rolls rotate, advance and radially deform the material, progressively forming individual spherical sections.

Ball Discharge
The formed hot balls are discharged for subsequent cooling or heat treatment.

FAQ

Q: Can the skew rolling mill be integrated into an existing grinding ball production line?

A: Yes. The mill can be connected with upstream bar handling and downstream cooling, quenching, tempering, inspection, and conveying equipment according to the existing line layout.

Q: What determines the service life of the rolling rolls?

A: Roll life is mainly affected by rolling load, production volume, material conditions, groove wear, and maintenance practices. Regular inspection helps maintain stable forming performance.

Q: What quality checks are recommended after rolling?

A: Typical checks include ball diameter, roundness, surface condition, and weight consistency. Inspection frequency can be adjusted to production volume and quality requirements.

Q: What utilities are required to install the machine?

A: Installation typically requires electrical power, cooling water, compressed air, and suitable foundations or supporting structures. Exact requirements depend on the final machine configuration.

Q: How is the machine commissioned after installation?

A: Commissioning normally includes mechanical inspection, electrical testing, parameter setup, trial rolling, and process adjustment using the customer's actual raw material.

Q: What spare parts should be prepared for long-term operation?

A: Recommended spares typically include rolling rolls, bearings, seals, electrical components, and other wear parts. The final list should be based on the machine configuration and expected operating conditions.
